We have replaced the broken wall mounted air heater/blower in the Gents changing room to keep off the winter chill whilst you are changing. This unit is linked to the lights & will turn off when the lights are switched off. There are 3 heat settings & 2 cool blower settings for the inevitable summer heat!

For those who would like to play Squash or Racketball with different opponents, we have put up a contact list at the court to enable you to make contact. We will add a bigger list as more people subscribe.

Following a considerable amount of work, we have re-installed the Non-members fees box, which some of you may remember from times of old. It now has a new coat of paint and will hopefully allow our appreciative visiting Non-members to be able to donate to the upkeep and running costs of the Court.

And Finally...

In order to encourage you all to wear eye-protection, we have provided some within this handy cabinet. Please consider purchasing and using your own and also please carefully read the instructions before using the Club equipment.

In the near future we will be hanging another cabinet that will contain Club Rackets & Balls for use by guests or for when yours become damaged during play.

Bulletin Board

Well I think that we have now found a decent Bulletin Board that we can use on the website as a Forum for Club discussions on various topics.

Please click on the "Blether" text on the Discussion page to access the board and post your comments.

I am afraid that there has to be a authorisation process to try to avoid the board being hacked. Apart from that it does seem fairly slick & useful.

You can set up your own profiles, post topics & comments & even send personal messages to each other.

Downloads

Thanks to those lovely folks at Justhost.com I have finally managed to put a Downloads page on the website. Ok so far it's just the Membership form & Rules, rules, rules, but I hope to put some fun drills & games on here in the near future.

Soothing sounds

Ok, so it's not pretty and it has something called a record player & tape deck, but it will do for now & I have rigged up a mini-jack plug for your phone/iPod/etc. Please don't wake the neighbours! :-)

Court Heaters

Well the new Court heaters are now in place & functioning perfectly. These will make you sweat just by standing there :-)

We now have a power socket upstairs in the viewing gallery which will shortly be joined by a stereo system where you will be able to listen to your own music as you play.

We have also managed to acquire a rudimentary excercise bike to help you warm up/cool down before and after your game.

Next project will be the renovation of the shower facilities, we promise!

Electrical upgrade works

This week saw the start of the electrical upgrade works to the Court which includes a new fuse board, new Court heaters, rationalisation of the old switchgear, replacement of room heaters and an extension socket for the upstairs viewing gallery.

These works will be completed within the next week and should bring quite an improvement to your experience at the court.

The next project at the court will involve the upgrading of the shower facilities we hope!

Nearly there....

Having survived the last lump of snowfall and it's associated sub-zero temperatures, we have patched up the roof and are now in the process of having new flooring laid on the ground floor corridor & change areas in an attempt to smarten the place up a bit and make it more welcoming.

We are hoping that next week will see the completion of the electrical repairs and safety testing. We are installing a new Court meter and hopefully some new heaters in the near future.

Court survives -18ºC temperatures

We have started cleaning off the floor in the court. It appears to be mainly dust & coffee stains from the painters we had in last year. However the wooden floor does need to be thoroughly cleaned before we can reseal and then re-lacquer the wood.

Luckily the Courts plumbing has survived the -18ºC temperature of Thursday night.

Well, I have finally managed to find what appears to be a suitable bit of software that will allow us to book Court time (after some set-up & manipulation). Best of all it's reasonably easy to use and is free!

We also now have a Bulletin Board or Forum for Discussions and a functioning mailing list for bulk mailing important Club news.

The final stage is to tart it all up & get it working smoothly. This could take some time.....

Welcome to the Merse Squash & Racketball Club website.

We are a small happy band of folks who run a friendly, single court in Duns, Berwickshire. Our short term goal has been to renovate the court and facilites in order for them to be suitable for public use again. Once the shower facilities are upgraded, we will have acheived this goal.

The Club and the Court is now operational and open to new members. We are quite happy to allow interested parties access to the court & our equipment on a come & try basis for Squash or Racketball, so please do not hestiate to contact us.

Apart from the ongoing maintenance of the facility, our next aim will be to increase our membership in order that we can then offer competition for all and coaching sessions for juniors.
